Think about Your Thoughts
When a burglar enters a home, it is an unwarranted attempt to invade an individual’s space and property for the sole purpose to adversely affect their personal belongings and overall welfare. It is an unlawful incursion that must be prevented and discouraged through various physical barriers and mediums such as alarm systems, security cameras and so on. These deterrents act as warnings to the homeowner and may even distinguish a possible suspect and identity.
Similar to the burglar in the above analogy, our thought life may be susceptible to the invasion of negative cognition and potentially hold us hostage if we cannot decipher from what is a true reflection of ourselves.
The enemy is the culprit for such illegal action taking place in our minds. The Bible warns saying, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith,” (1 Peter 5:8-9). This verse emphasizes the notion that the enemy has a specific agenda that is stealthy and devious in looking for someone to consume. As believers, it is essential to be on high surveillance and to understand and apply the steps to take if, and when an invasion comes.
Being children in Christ, these steps include a common denominator; the renewal of the mind and planting ourselves in the identity Christ has called us into, and using scripture to combat daily troubles of deception and lies that enter our minds. For example when the enemy whispers, “You are sinful,” God says, “Sin will not master you, (Romans 6:14). When the enemy says, “You are confused,” God replies, “I will guide you into truth, (John 16:13). Thus, God’s trajectory for our lives is based on protection held together with love, and scripture holds accuracy to this promise. The security system that we need to ensure refuge is based on and evaluated as to what is worthy of space in our minds and to set this standard on things above, (Colossians 3: 2-3).
The state to be free of danger or threat requires a proactive undertaking that requires comprehension of who we are as believers to prevent captivity of the mind. A security system built on these values is destined to guide and protect the thoughts of the mind and keep it away from confinement.
And so, we leave you with this word,
“We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ,”
(2 Corinthians 10: 4-5).
