Has God Forgotten About Me?

The mountain is getting higher, the air is a bit thinner, and the soles of your shoes are wearing thin. It’s a constant climb to find rest and peace. This relentless battle is when peace suddenly becomes pieces. Pain and suffering have the ability to swell inside our heart and mind, and eventually take the driver seat in our lives by shaping decisions, and beliefs. A more dangerous area is when it starts to shape our outlook of who Christ the Father is and inhibits us from establishing relationship with Him.

If God is so loving, why am I sick? If God is so loving, why did He let my friend die? If God is so loving, why didn’t He stop the earthquake? What kind of Father would do that? The list goes on and on. Let’s settle something before we start.

God is always good.

This Sunday school teaching sounds redundant, and maybe even a little cliché but it’s the truth. God becomes liable for a host of our problems here on Earth when He has made it clear that He is a sovereign God and not in control.

Sovereignty and control are two similar words but can in fact be differentiated. The original Greek translation of sovereignty is,

Basileía = kingship, authority, rule. The realm in which a king sovereignly rules.

So, just as an earthy king rules over a country, the management of motives and behavior is out of his reach. If this were possible, people would be perfect and totally controlled.

Friends, it is time for us to realize the ramifications of sin in this world and the battle that takes place every day for your faith and hope as a result. The Bible warns us of Satan and his doings here on Earth by saying,

“The thief comes to only to steal, kill, and destroy, I have come that they may have life, and have it in full,” (John 10:10).

And again in 1 Peter 5:8,

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”

As believers in Christ, we must be equipped to take down enemy grounds and fight for life. Jesus said, “Truly, truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father,” (John 14:12).

With that being said, has God forgotten about you?

- Your sorrow?

- Your fears?

- Your suffering?

Absolutely not. He catches our tears and has record of them all (Psalm 56:8). He is our Comforter, our Shield, our Provider, our Saviour and walks along with us through the trials of life. Even Jesus experienced the heartaches of this dying world. Earth is running at its own pace in sin and destruction. The realization of the palpable love of the Father over us and the new life in Him, we can be sure we are running the race with an upper hand of protection that also distills into peace. Even in our darkest days He is still good!

And so, we leave you with this Word,

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away,” (Revelation 21:4).
