What They Don't Know They Won't Know
As we now enter the month of August, where the days are slowly becoming poised into shorter lengths of time, summer thankfully continues to hug us with a warm embrace. For some, this season can’t be long enough as the beginning of a new school year is just around the corner. In the classroom, we are graded, marked, and evaluated. If we meet certain specific objectives, we receive a passing grade and move on to the next obstacle. Although practical to make a career, sometimes it takes a little more beyond the textbook to make a life.
What exactly are we talking about here?
The key to every decision you will make is wisdom. In fact, it shapes perspective, gives foresight/direction, and offers the better choice in all circumstances. Without it, you may find yourself in sticky situation. But don’t fret! God still has your back.
And so, we now find ourselves asking the question: If knowledge is learned, then how do we achieve this attribute of wisdom?
To start, let’s look at the Greek definition of wisdom…
Wisdom or sophía: refers to skill, intelligence, good judgement, and insight.
To achieve wisdom, is to have reverence for God, His ways, His plans, His motives, His heart, His desire for you, His truth, His perspective, His love for you, His purity and His standard. As believers, in order for wisdom to truly flourish, grow and become a viable activation in our lives, we must be willing to lay the things that keep us from seeing His perspective and be willing to let God take the reins to have His plans and insight grow in whatever situation we are in.
The Bible says,
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” (Proverbs 1:7).
And again in Proverbs 4:5-9,
“Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honour you. She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.”
And finally, the Bible also says,
“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice,” (Proverbs 12:15).
God is the giver of wisdom. Sometimes He can speak through people around you, or even to us directly. Nonetheless, wisdom also takes a great deal of humility, and an embrace to correction as pride can often lead us into a boycott of foolishness where we refuse to listen and ignore good advice. Thus, bad choices can be made.
We need to be honest with ourselves to step back and analyze choices we’ve made, so that we have the ability to evaluate these choices, as it all comes back to wisdom. Sometimes it can be easy to judge others on a bad decision or choice they have made, but what they don’t know they won’t know. When wisdom is absent, it’s like driving a car blind folded.
Wisdom truly is the foundation of everything we do as it acts as the map of our lives. What a gift! What a blessing! After all, it’s impossible to do the right thing without right doing!
Let’s take a moment and thank God for the gift of wisdom He gives so freely to those who ask Him, to guide our lives in the right direction (Take a look at James 1:5).
We pray that you find yourself walking with the Giver of wisdom in all choices you make so that you walk in the right direction you are called into.
And so, we leave you with this Word,
“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding,” (Proverbs 3:13).
