Are You Wearing Your Weariness?

“I’m sorry to say so, but sadly it’s true; that bang-ups and hang-ups can happen to you.”

10 points if you recognize the above quote.

We won’t keep you puzzled for too long. This quote is from the book called “Oh The Places You’ll Go,” by Dr. Seuss, the classic book that depicts new beginnings, change, and even the weariness that comes with change within circumstance.

Are you in a place where you are weary? Weariness takes on a multiple of fronts and looks different for everyone.

The Greek definition for weary is kámnō: to the point of sickness; "spent," ready to collapse, especially from over-work.

Have you been there? Have you poured every last drop of yourself into a certain situation only to be in the SAME place? Have you done all the right things, at the right time, with the right people and still end up in the SAME place? Let’s be real; we’ve all been there, and some of us may still be there – or stuck there.

Many of us are walking in seasons of life where good choice, led to disappointment, which led to lamenting, which leads to weariness. That’s a tough road to walk in. Aren’t seasons only supposed to last a certain time frame? Why does it always seem to feel like good change is so far gone? Anger and bitterness are fed on disappointment and makes it is extremely easy to be resentful towards people in these situations.

Like we’ve said in past blogs, the last thing people want to hear in these times is to “trust God.” It can be cliché, overrated, frustrating and often adds more gas to the already cindering fire. If you are reading this and believe you have done everything right, like make the right choices and have chosen integrity over what was fun, easy or quick we are here for you. More importantly God is here for you.

The sanctification of character is something that Christians often try to justify or avoid. Character is SO important to God. It makes us stronger, wiser, and the ability to see situations with the eyes of Christ.

The Bible says,

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing,” (James 1:2-4).

Count it all joy. Pardon?

So why are we so surprised when we face trials of various kinds? Why are we not better prepared to face these trials? Why does it come as such a shock? The reality is that we are never truly prepared for these things. An element of faith must be present when these things happen. Paul wrote in Hebrews,

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1).

Many are quick to assume the miracles depicted in the Bible were only for that time or for certain people and that couldn’t be further for the truth. Remember; even when things look and feel stuck, stagnant, broken, closed, locked, wasted, confused, small, lonely, hopeless, tired, and weary, He is constantly working on Your behalf. Fix you gaze on the One!

Friends, this life is tough – no doubt about it. However, you never walk alone, and even Jesus faced many trials and a sense of weariness when He walked the Earth. Rest in the fact that not only did your Heavenly Father walk in these very steps first, but He also made a new way out of it!

If you are tired of bad news, it’s time to dig into the Good News! Yay!

And so, we leave you with this Word,

“We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us,” (Romans 5: 3-5).
