Bottom of The Barrel

The bottom of the barrel is a cold, dark and lonely place to be in. But let’s face it, it is a reality that doesn’t discriminate. When you have been robbed of the things that were rightfully yours, or if you have been plagued by disappointment after disappointment the bottom of the barrel starts to feel like home. It starts to feel like it’s where you belong.

Scripture doesn't promise an easy life, but it promises us a life that is filled with hope and resilience especially when the “easy” starts to deteriorate. After all, as perfect and holy as Jesus was, He too faced a host of grief, disappointment and a testing of His beliefs when He came to walk with us. He however, never lost sight of who His Father was and continued to push forward when trials and temptations attempted to succumb Him.

You might be in a place where it is just been plain hard for a very long time. Maybe you have even started to question the love of Christ or His purpose or even faith itself. When we start to look for answers with our finite minds we begin a slippery slope where bitterness towards God that if left unattended can remold our identity based on our current or past circumstances. Don’t let disappointment write the chapters of your life!

Life can be really tough and gruelling, often leaving us with a lot of unanswered questions. Sometimes there just isn’t anything anyone could say or do to comfort us during these times. All you are responsible for is giving it to God. You don’t have to figure it out or try to understand why. Just give it to God. You didn’t ask for it therefore you do not claim ownership.

Give it to God.

The bottom of the barrel is a ruthless place. You do not have to face it alone.

And so, we leave you with this Word,

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever,” (Revelation 21:4).
