Confidence.

Confidence this day and age can almost take on the term of counterfeit. With so much information, people, perspectives, rationale, reasoning and justification coming at us at any given moment - the true meaning of this word becomes more of a knock off than anything else nowadays. With all of this so - called truth coming at us, one has to think, “It can’t all be true.”

Modern definitions for the word confidence often refers to the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something with firm trust.

In order to have trust, you must have confirmation that whatever you are believing is accurate and can be argued from many different angles and can constantly hold its weight for that same conclusion. Otherwise, it tends to collapse in on itself and take up space with the rest of many various theories, personal opinion and rhetoric.

The Greek word for confidence is reliance. Often, scripture points to this type of confidence in Christ as being the ultimate truth or reliance.

Confidence as used in the Word of God can be measured by its ability to expose our longing for what is right, good and just.

So this makes us think, when our confidence in God is shaken, moved and stirred, do we still have a full tank of faith? It’s okay to have questions. It’s okay to ask the hard stuff.

We know that confidence in Christ is absolute truth. Why? We know that even if we disassemble the character of Christ, He still remains unchanged and leads to new life no matter how we try to bend it, and that following God at His Word 100% leads to life. The Word of God at its core has the ability to expose sin and change hearts, therefore we know that confidence in Christ cannot be altered with time or made to fit a certain time frame. Thus, we can be sure that having confidence in Christ is the sheer definition of reliability at its full capacity. Reliability is steadfast, much like Christ.

So no matter which angle you approach life at you can be sure Christ is the path that always leads home.

And so, we leave you with this Word,

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green, has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” Jeremiah 17:7-8.
