Don't Take The Bait
Emotions have a funny way of dictating our thoughts, motive and behaviour. Sometimes what we feel can be so tangible and real it’s hard to imagine an escape route or see anything any other way. This can falsely reinforce a perceived reality that we end up identifying with shaping our lives in an adverse way.
Don’t take the bait!
You don’t have to be a slave to your emotions and the slippery slope they put you in. You have the option to be better and to do better.
Now, this is not to say everything we feel is false or should be examined with a fine tooth comb. After all, human emotion is an important component of our makeup and is very real in certain situations. However, emotion cannot have the final verdict in specific situations, especially when we end up building our own thesis of why or how things should be or how we should react. This puts the focus back on ourselves which is never static and dependent on temporal highs of life.
This is completely contrary to what the world feeds us. Clever marketing, advertisements and sly words are created to instantly evoke an emotional response that really come down to the idea that we are lacking in some way or another and should never be content. This does not mean we are complacent to sin, however learning to align our lives with Christ is step one to true freedom.
You have a choice to make in the matter. You do not have to give into the lies that come out of a certain situation. It doesn't define you or the outcome. Let the Word of God be the master of your life and you will never have to untangle the inconsistency of emotions ever again.
And so, we leave you with this Word,
“A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls,” Proverbs 25:28
