In Like A Lamb, Out Like A Lion

So the saying goes, “In like a Lion, Out like a Lamb,” a phrase coined for the month of March to describe the changes and transition from winter to spring. This month often arrives with remnants of relentless winter weather, cold temperatures and also the remaining abrasive characteristics that make winter what it is.

This phrase used to describe the weather, in its reverse form, takes on an imperative meaning for Christians.

In like a lamb, out like a lion.

As followers of Christ, it’s easy to become passive, stagnant, complacent, or timid with what we believe. Let’s face it; sometimes the world can be intimidating and rude. We do however, have a duty to become more knowledgeable in the word of God and be ambassadors for justice and morality. A lamb is a defenseless creature that usually becomes prey. It’s time to grow and transition into the identity Christ has called us forth in, and be hungry for truth so we can become the lion in the wilderness.

Hebrews 5:12-14 gives us a glimpse of this idea of growing up in Christ with the following,

You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s Word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.”

Don’t be a baby! Don’t become stuck in a juvenile head space and be quick to point a finger at God in times of trouble.Always keep growing, keep pursuing and keep on the straight and narrow path.

The Bible also makes it clear that learning is an important concept. A part of Hosea also depicts this saying,

“My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.”

And again in Ecclesiastes 7:12,

“For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to the one who possesses it.”

Much like money, in order to reap the benefits of wisdom and knowledge, we must invest ourselves in time to grow and learn more of what God says about situations.

Friend, don’t stay the person you were yesterday. We all have work in certain areas of our lives to gain more understanding. Let’s start to take God up on His word and use it to become a mature citizen of God’s kingdom here on Earth.

And so, we leave you with this word,

“The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the Godly are as bold as lions,” (Proverbs 28:1).
